RE: Lexington Forest River B+ class

PR My roof is fiberglass, the sides are a gelcoat. The roof has seams, where the sides meet the curve of the roof on top. Don't know for sure, but I think it has wood not aluminum framing - wood because of the cost. For the cost I think the Lexington is ok.

RE: Lexington Forest River B+ class

I bought a 2006 Lexington 283GTS, which sounds like what your talking about. It only had 7,600 miles on it, when we got it in June. So far we have only gone to Nashville, TN in July with it. It had to have the roof recaulked. (dealer took care of that - at no charge) If I planned to use it in the winter, I would get two small electric heaters - one for the bed room area and one for the front. I don't think the propane tank would last a week running the furnace in the winter. Even though the slidges gaskets seem to fit really good, I think you would get cold air transferring thru the slide areas. I think we will be fine with ours, not going north in the winter (maybe Florida or Alabama coast area.

RE: jeep liberty

You might want to compare the 2008 Liberty to the 2002-2007 models concerning how you have to hook up the electric systems. 2008 have to have a battery disconnect or mileage will be recorded. I have a 2007 Liberty and all you need to do is get everything in neutral and away you go.

Long Dually Valves not just extentions!

After a long search I finally found some long valves that really work on my E450 dually wheels. Tried extentions and they didn't work very well. If you would like to check the tire pressure in tires mounted on dually's check out www.duallyvalve.com. None of the RV dealers I've been to stock anything like this product. Not trying to promote any company, so if someone knows of another supplier of something like this post it now. Now I'm ready to go to the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesboro, TN the first week of October!

Air Filter - V10 Ford

I just bought a 2006 Forest River Lexington 283 with 7,600 miles on it. Saw receipts where the previous owner had changed the oil every year. Decided to check air filter and it seemed fairly clean(I don't believe it was ever changed) , but I decided to buy a new one. Thought it might cost around $30.00, but probably would help engine run better. Got one at Autozone for $17.95. I think from now on I'll change the air filter, when I change the oil. This seems like a low cost maintance detail that could pay for itself in better performance and a little better gas mileage.

RE: Gas mileage with Ford V10

Depending on what your looking for I would recommend buying something with a 2005 or newer chasis. In 2005 Ford E450's got the new 5sp auto. The main thing I have noticed on the 2006 Forest River Lexington I got a couple of months ago with only 7,600 miles on it was that the 5sp really helps desending steep mountains. The gas mileage seems to depend on speed and if your towing something. I haven't really calculated the exact mileage I get, but estimate between 7.5 and 9 mpg. I'm towing a 2007 Jeep Liberty and keep the speed 60-65 most of the time.

Good Dealer Report

I bought a 2006 Forest River Lexington 283 a few months ago from Mid-State RV, Byron, GA. Didn't get to take it out for a few weeks after I bought it, but on a trip from Atlanta, GA to Nashville, TN we had heavy rain all the way and after we got settled I was checking out my closet and had a stack of T-Shirts that were soaking wet. Short story, called salesman after I got back explained what had happened and he said they would cover any repair that was needed. Took it back and when the service writter and I were going out to check it out the owner came by service and ask if I needed anything. Anyway he checked out the roof himself and authorized a complete reseal of the whole roof. I've seen several posts lately about roofs leaking and I think we all should make it a habit to check roofs more often. I see alot of bad reports on dealers, so I just wanted to give one good one.

RE: Tires on a Budget

I just wanted to point out that there are alternatives to Michelin, sorry I got several of you concerned about my stupidity. I'll unsubscribe to this topic now and get ready for my trip. See Ya, Dave.

RE: Tires on a Budget

Thanks Pol for the reply. I'll check the date tomorrow, but they are supposed to be a updated model for Firestone. I think the old model was a R4 something. I saw the delivery truck from the wholesaler bring two of them over, while I was there. I bought them from a dealer that specilizes in working on large work trucks and motorhomes.

Tires on a Budget

I bought a used 2006 Forest River Lexington 283GTS with only 7,800 miles on it a few weeks ago and plan on going from Atlanta to Nashville for a week starting 7/13/08. The more I looked at the tires dry rot keep coming to mind. 2006 Model, but on a 2005 E450 Ford Cut Away. Anyway short story 6 Michelins would cost $1200 and probably last 3-4 years, before they had dry rot. So for $815 I got 6 Firestone Transforce. The pricing was before various taxes. The size tire on this unit is 225/75/16. The way I figure it, if I keep the Motorhome like I plan to. I'll be needing 6 more tires in 3-4 years, so if I save $400 each time it's like a set free. Got to save for the gas now. See Ya, Dave.:)

RE: 2008 Jeep Liberty

Just got a 2007 Liberty Limited. Taking it to Camping World today to get it set up to be towed. I'm getting the AddaBrake system. The AddaBrake is a temporary system to take on and off, when you want to use it. I'm having the Masterbrake Sterling system installed on the Jeep. I've had a 83 Jeep Scrambler and my father-in-law had one of the original Cherokees, so I thought I might not like the Liberty, but after driving it a few times I think I'm going to like it ok. After checking out all the different State laws about towing, I decided to just get the cheapist system available, so I wouldn't have any potential trouble in the feature about not having some auxilary brake system.

RE: 2006 Forest River - Lexington 283

Thanks, for the info catman. I guess it was good that I got the extended warrenty? Maybe my luck will hold, I had a 85 Ford Excort that went 165,000 miles (then I gave it to a Brother-In-Law).

RE: 2006 Forest River - Lexington 283

Thanks, for the reply 49 - I don't think we'll have a weight problem. Just two of us and 3 small dogs. Does anyone know if the 2006 GTS has leveling legs. I saw on the Lexington website that the 2008 GTS had them.

2006 Forest River - Lexington 283

Buying a used 2006 Lexington 283 with about 7,500 miles on it. Anyone have any pros or cons for these units. Wife liked the 3 Slides and microwave/convection oven. This one had a Satillite Dome and a Arctic package on it for heating the holding tanks. Now I've got to see about trading my pickup truck for a toad to pull.

Dodge 3500 SRW 2WD Auto

Anyone driving a Dodge 3500 2WD Auto- saw one on cars.com and contacted the dealer for more info (salesman as usual will have to check with svc dept). Asked if the 2005 model had the fuel pump in the tank. I think it does. Does anyone know about the fuel pump location. With diesel at $4.30+ I'm thinking a 2WD might be good enough. Thanks, Dave

RE: CT51 did you get the F350 yet?

Thanks, CT51 for the reply. Sounds like you ordered almost everthing available on that truck. I've got a Mountaineer trailer version of the Montana up at Blairsville it's a 2003 Model and a Outback 5th wheel parked at my house. From what I've learned with both of those RV'S is to be ready for almost anything to go wrong once you start using them. Not sure where Smoke Rise area is. All I seem to do now that I live in Gwinnett is to get on Centerville-Rosebud Road in the morning and in the afternoon get off at E Park Place near Stone Mt. to get home. (I get to spend all day down in Atlanta near the 5Pts. Marta area.) Thanks, Dave

CT51 did you get the F350 yet?

A while back CT51 posted he was getting a 2008 F350 V10 and I was just wondering if it came in yet? Thanks, Dave

RE: PSD vs V10

CT51 - Keep us posted on how the 08 V10 works out. If I get to use my 5th wheel again I'm thinking about a 06 or newer F250 V10.
